Therapy for Parents & Carers

Confidential counselling and therapeutic support for parents and carers, shaped by an understanding of caring responsibilities, neurodivergence and family life.

Support for you, as well as those you care for

Caring for a child or young person can bring love, pride and connection. It can also involve uncertainty, exhaustion and the pressure of trying to hold many things together.

Your own feelings and experiences deserve space too. Counselling gives you an opportunity to talk openly, reflect and explore what may help, without judgement or pressure to have everything worked out.

Every parent and carer’s circumstances are different. You may want support with a particular concern, or you may simply need somewhere you can speak honestly about how things have been for you.

Understanding family life

Support that understands neurodivergence

Families can face pressures that are not always understood by others. This may include navigating education, health or care services, long waits for support, changes in family life, repeated advocacy or the emotional impact of seeing a child struggle.

Our approach is informed by professional knowledge and lived experience of supporting children and young people with SEN and neurodivergence. We will not assume that every family has the same experience. The focus remains on you, what you are carrying and what you would like from counselling.

You do not need to explain everything perfectly or arrive knowing where to begin.

A space for you

What counselling can help with

Parents and carers seek counselling for many different reasons. These may include:

  • Stress, anxiety or low mood
  • Emotional exhaustion or burnout
  • Changes in identity or confidence
  • Grief, loss or uncertainty
  • Relationships and family pressures
  • The emotional impact of navigating education, health or care services
  • Having very little time or space for yourself
  • Wanting somewhere confidential to reflect and talk

You do not need a diagnosis or a specific concern to enquire. Counselling is about your needs and what feels most helpful to explore.

How sessions are offered

We currently offer online counselling, allowing you to access support from a private and comfortable place.

Limited face-to-face sessions may be available in selected areas, depending on your location and practitioner availability. We will explain the available options when you enquire.

Counselling is a separate service from SEND advocacy and mentoring. Practitioner details, availability, fees and session arrangements will be confirmed before you decide whether to book.

What to expect

A conversation about your needs

Tell us what you are looking for in your own words. You do not need to have everything worked out before getting in touch.

Finding the right counsellor

We will discuss your needs and the counsellors currently available. Sessions are delivered by members of our counselling team, depending on suitability and availability.

A pace that feels manageable

We recognise that parents and carers may have limited time, changing responsibilities and competing demands. Practical arrangements can be discussed as part of your enquiry.

Clear and professional boundaries

Before you proceed, we will explain the counsellor’s professional background, therapeutic approach, session arrangements, fees and confidentiality, including its limits.

Therapy is not an emergency or crisis service.
