1. Purpose & Commitment At Moving MindSpace, we believe that equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the heart of a fair and compassionate society. We are committed to ensuring that every child, young person, carer, family member, staff member, volunteer, contractor and professional partner is treated with respect, dignity and understanding. We recognise and celebrate difference and strive to build an environment where everyone feels safe, valued and able to be themselves.
2. Our Organisational Values Our culture is grounded in empathy, respect and lived experience. We believe in meeting people where they are, creating space for every voice, and building environments that promote growth, belonging and equality for all. Our trauma-informed approach means we prioritise psychological safety, kindness and mutual understanding in everything we do.
3. Scope This policy applies to all aspects of Moving MindSpace’s work, including service delivery, recruitment, partnerships, governance and day-to-day operations. It covers all those who engage with or represent Moving MindSpace, including children, young people, families, staff, volunteers, mentors, contractors and professional partners.
4. Legal Framework This policy aligns with the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant UK legislation, including the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Public Sector Equality Duty. We actively promote equality across all nine protected characteristics: • Age • Disability • Gender reassignment • Marriage and civil partnership • Pregnancy and maternity • Race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origins) • Religion or belief • Sex • Sexual orientation In addition, Moving MindSpace recognises neurodiversity and lived experience as important aspects of human diversity, reflecting our core values of inclusion and understanding.
5. Our Principles Our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion is built upon the following principles: • Everyone deserves respect, safety and a sense of belonging. Moving MindSpace | Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy | Version 1.1 | 08/10/2026 • We challenge discrimination, prejudice and stigma in all forms. • We value lived experience and neurodiversity as strengths. • We promote access and participation for people of all abilities and backgrounds. • We take a trauma-informed, person-centred approach in every interaction. • We continually reflect on our own practice to remove barriers and bias.
6. Responsibilities Equality, diversity and inclusion are a shared responsibility across Moving MindSpace: • Directors are responsible for leading by example, ensuring compliance and embedding inclusive values across strategy and policy. • Managers and mentors are responsible for fostering inclusive environments and addressing bias or discrimination. • All staff, volunteers and contractors must act respectfully, challenge discrimination and uphold Moving MindSpace’s inclusive culture in all interactions.
7. Intersectionality We recognise that discrimination and disadvantage can overlap and intersect, for example through race, gender, disability or socio-economic background. We are committed to understanding and addressing these complex experiences so that everyone can access fair and meaningful opportunities.
8. Recruitment & Representation Moving MindSpace is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment practices. We actively welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of neurodiversity, caring or mental health challenges. All recruitment, selection and promotion decisions are made on the basis of skills, experience and suitability for the role. We aim to build a team that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
9. Accessibility & Reasonable Adjustments We are committed to ensuring our services, communication and environments are as accessible as possible. Reasonable adjustments will be made for anyone who experiences barriers to participation or employment, whether physical, sensory, cognitive or emotional. This includes flexible approaches to communication, scheduling and engagement. This commitment should be read alongside the Accessibility & Inclusion Statement.
10. Training & Awareness All staff, mentors and volunteers receive training on equality, diversity and inclusion as part of their induction and ongoing development. This includes awareness of unconscious bias, trauma-informed practice, and the lived experiences of neurodivergent and disabled people. Supervision and reflective practice provide space for continuous learning and accountability.
11. Addressing Discrimination or Bias Any concerns or complaints about discrimination, bullying, harassment or bias will be taken seriously and handled promptly. Individuals can raise issues with a Director or their line manager. Concerns will be considered fairly and with respect for all parties involved. Where concerns cannot be resolved informally, they may be escalated in line with the Complaints & Feedback Policy and, where relevant, other organisational procedures.
