SEND Appeals & Tribunal Preparation

Practical support when a decision needs challenging.

Disagreeing with a local authority decision can feel overwhelming. We help families understand their options, prepare online appeals, organise evidence and make their case clearly. Support is tailored to the stage you're at and delivered remotely.

Appeal deadlines apply to many SEND decisions. If you have received a decision letter, contact us as soon as possible so we can help you understand your options and relevant timescales.

What we do

Support that goes beyond advice

We can help prepare and submit appeal documents, organise evidence and communicate with the local authority on your behalf with your written authorisation.

Challenging decisions

Understanding local authority decisions and appeal options, including refusal to assess, refusal to issue an EHCP, or decisions about content or placement. We help identify disputed issues and review Sections B, F and I where relevant.

Evidence and paperwork

Identifying gaps in evidence, organising professional reports and supporting evidence, preparing appeal forms and written grounds, and preparing working documents.

Preparing for the next stage

Helping families understand the appeal process, directions and deadlines, and prepare for tribunal hearings. Virtual hearing attendance or representation must be discussed and agreed separately.

Practical, parent-focused advocacy

Someone alongside you, not just a list of instructions

SEND appeal support is led by Charlene Rolls, Moving MindSpace director, SEND advocate and SEND parent. Our core work is helping families prepare and progress appeals online.

With your written authorisation, we can correspond with local authorities, help draft paperwork and attend virtual meetings where agreed. Virtual tribunal hearing support or representation may be considered individually; it is not included automatically in a package.

We are independent SEND advocates, not a solicitors' firm.

You won't pay twice for work already done.

Reading, drafting, correspondence, calls, preparation and virtual meetings all count towards agreed hours.

We discuss and agree any extra costs before work begins.

There is no fee to register an appeal with the First-tier Tribunal (SEND). Our charges relate to the independent support we provide.

Frequently asked questions

Can you help me submit my appeal online?

Yes. We can help prepare the documents and guide you through the online submission process. The parent or person with appeal rights remains responsible for authorising submissions.

Can you represent me at a tribunal hearing?

Virtual hearing support or representation may be available by individual arrangement after reviewing the case and agreeing the scope and fees. It is not automatically included in our preparation packages.

Does the £225 package cover my whole appeal?

No. It covers up to 4.5 hours of agreed initial preparation. Ongoing evidence work, working documents, correspondence and hearings may require further time.

Will you charge me less if you already know our case?

Possibly. We consider work already completed and existing familiarity with your child's circumstances when preparing a new quote.

Is free appeal advice available?

Yes. Families can appeal without paid representation. Free independent information and advice is available from local SENDIASS services and IPSEA.

Are there deadlines for appeals?

Yes. Appeal deadlines and any mediation requirements depend on the decision and appeal type. Contact us promptly and check the date on your decision letter. We cannot guarantee an extension or a particular outcome.
