🌿 The Carer’s Room

Counselling & Emotional Recovery for Parent-Carers

Specialist counselling for parent-carers, families, and those supporting neurodivergent children — designed by people who truly understand.

Because when you spend every day caring for others, it’s easy to forget your own needs.

The Carer’s Room is a dedicated space for parent-carers to breathe, reflect, and begin to heal. Many parents of neurodivergent or disabled children carry invisible exhaustion, emotional strain, and a loss of identity. Our counselling service was created to support you — the person behind the care — with a safe, understanding, and non-judgmental space to explore what’s really going on underneath.

💬 Why The Carer’s Room Exists

Parent-carers are among the most overlooked groups when it comes to emotional wellbeing.

Research shows:

  • Over 70% of parent-carers experience symptoms of anxiety or depression.
  • 1 in 2 report feelings of isolation or burnout.
  • Many can’t access therapy because traditional counsellors don’t understand neurodiversity, SEND systems, or the emotional reality of caring.

We built The Carer’s Room to change that — a space where you don’t have to explain what “meltdowns,” “EHCP stress,” or “school battles” mean. Our counsellors already understand.

For many carers, simply being able to speak openly — without fear of judgment or having to educate the therapist — can be the first step toward recovery.

  • 🫶 Who It’s For

    • Parent-carers of neurodivergent or disabled children
    • Carers experiencing burnout or compassion fatigue
    • Partners or family members affected by caring responsibilities
    • Professionals who support SEND families and feel emotionally impacted

Whether you’re holding everything together or feeling like you’re falling apart, you don’t have to do it alone.

  • 👥 Our Counsellors

Every counsellor in The Carer’s Room has specific training in neurodiversity, carer wellbeing, trauma recovery, and family dynamics.

Many are carers themselves or have lived experience within SEND systems — bringing both professional skill and deep empathy.

    All are:

    • Carer-informed – understanding the daily realities of caring roles.
    • Neurodiversity-trained – experienced with autism, ADHD, PDA, sensory needs, trauma and burnout.
    • Trauma-informed – skilled in supporting recovery from chronic stress and crisis.
    • System-aware – familiar with EHCPs, exclusions, and the wider pressures families face.

Sessions are gentle, paced around your needs, and focused on emotional recovery, identity rebuilding, and reconnecting you with yourself — not just your caring role.

  • 🌱 What Therapy Can Help With

Every carer’s story is different, but common themes include:

    • Carer burnout and emotional overwhelm
    • Anxiety, depression, or trauma symptoms
    • Guilt, shame, and self-blame
    • Loss of identity or purpose
    • Relationship strain and family tension
    • Navigating services, schools, or SEND systems
    • Grief and adjustment following diagnosis or crisis
